About the Anchor House 
Anchor House’s mission is: "Investing into families and individuals through housing and resources, while fighting hunger in our community." Anchor House has been focused on meeting the immediate needs of our community members who are experiencing food insecurity or homelessness through our two shelters and food pantry. They help meet the most basic needs, like shelter and food, and create the stability necessary to engage our clients to imagine the pathway they need out of crisis and into a future where they are thriving instead of surviving. Our mission is and has always been about addressing the barriers to long-term success and independence, while reinforcing each individuals' inherent dignity and self-worth, by providing the logistical supports necessary to become self-sufficient.

Food Insecurity During the Pandemic
Hunger exists in every corner of Indiana, and it affects people from all walks of life. Feeding America estimates that food insecurity in the USA has increased by nearly 20% due to the pandemic. That means 1 in 8 people—almost 700,000 of our neighbors, including nearly 185,000 children—is unable to access the food they need, an increase from 1 in 10 in 2019.
Hundreds of thousands of children and families living in the USA face hunger and food insecurity every day.
  • The pandemic has most impacted families that were already facing hunger or one paycheck away from facing hunger.
  • Households with children are more likely to experience food insecurity.
  • Every community in our state is home to families who face hunger, including rural and suburban communities.
